FEMUSINDO.com - Formed in Medan, North Sumatra, on February 3, 1965, The Mercy's, previously known as Watches, is a music group from Indonesia that was popular in the 1970s.

From its formation to its success, this group has undergone several formation changes.

In 1972, The Mercy's consisted of Charles Hutagalung (keyboard, vocals), Erwin Harahap (guitar, vocals), Albert Sumlang (saxophone, vocals), Rinto Harahap (bass, vocals), and Reynold Panggabean (drums, vocals).

In December 1974, Albert Sumlang had announced his resignation from The Mercy's due to internal problems within the group.

After Albert resigned, The Mercy's for the first time ran with only 4 people since then.

Album Contract

In 1975, The Mercy's had completed several albums that had been their contract with the record producer.

After The Mercy's completed their 10th album and several Pop Melayu, Pop Mandarin, and Pop Anak-anak albums produced by Remaco, Charles Hutagalung left in 1976.

It was around 1977 for the second time when the keyboardist and main vocalist of The Mercy's had declared his resignation from The Mercy's.

The three remaining members of The Mercy's: Rinto Harahap (bass, vocals), Erwin Harahap (guitar, vocals), and Reynold Panggabean (drums, vocals) were still trying to maintain the existence of this group.

The Mercy's Rise and Disband

In 1997, The Mercy's rose again and made a splash with the initial formation, namely Erwin Harahap, Rinto Harahap, Reynold Panggabean, Charles Hutagalung and Albert Sumlang.

The Mercy's was revived by doing the recording process during the new year's date and month for a new album and released two albums "Reunion Vol. 1" and "Reunion Vol. 2".

After the release of the two albums, Charles and Albert left again because they experienced a situation of boredom and disbanded again only for a reunion project.

After releasing the album, The Mercy's practically took a break from the recording world and ultimately ended the history of the legendary band The Mercy's.

The Mercy's is recorded to have recorded as many as 40 albums that it has produced, starting from Pop, Keroncong, Children's Pop, and Spiritual albums, which on average were successful and popular with the wider community. (*)
