Al Green One of the Most Talented Purveyors of Soul Music

FEMUSINDO.com - Albert Leornes Greene, known professionally as Al Green, was born in Forrest City, Arkansas, United States, April 13, 1946.

He is an American singer, songwriter and record producer best known for recording a series of hit soul singles in the early 1970s.

The singer, whose other name is The Reverend Al Green, has songs in the R&B, soul, smooth soul, blues and gospel genres.

His hit singles included "Take Me to the River", "Tired of Being Alone", "I'm Still in Love with You", "Love and Happiness", and his signature song, "Let's Stay Together".
After his girlfriend died by suicide, Green turned to gospel music. He later returned to secular music.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Green was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. He is named on the museum's website as one of soul music's most talented purveyors.

It is also called "The Last of the Great Soul Singers". Green is the winner of 11 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. 

He also received the BMI Icon award and was a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. He was included on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, ranking No. 65.

Additionally, Al Green entered Rolling Stone's list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time at No. 10. (*)
