Freddie Mercury, The Legendary Vocalist of Queen, Here's His Story



FEMUSINDO.com - Frederick "Freddie" Mercury or Freddie Mercury, the legendary lead vocalist of the British rock band Queen.

Freddie Mercury, whose real name is Farrokh Bulsara, was born in Stone Town, Sultanate of Zanzibar, September 5, 1946, to Parsi parents from India.

The vocalist of Queen, besides being known as a singer, also wrote songs and was a record producer. Together with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, Mercury formed the band Queen in 1970.

Some of the songs written by Mercury for Queen that became hits include "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Killer Queen", "Somebody to Love", "Don't Stop Me Now", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", and "We Are the Champions".

In addition to releasing albums and singles with Queen, he also pursued a solo career and sometimes became a producer and guest musician for other artists.

Freddie Mercury died in Kensington, London, England, November 24, 1991 at the age of 45 due to complications from Aids that he suffered.

As a member of Queen, he was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004.

A year after his death, Mercury was posthumously awarded the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music in 1092.

Not only that, to honor the late Freddie Mercury, a tribute concert was held at Wembley Stadium, London, England.

AllMusic describes Mercury as one of the best rock performers of all time, with one of the best voices in all types of music.

In 2002, he was number 58 in a poll by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) as the 100 Greatest Britons.

In a 2005 poll conducted by Blender and MTV2, Mercury was voted the greatest male singer of all time.

Greatest Rock Performer of All Time Mercury was also ranked 18th on Rolling Stone's 2008 list of the 100 greatest singers of all time.

Three years later, in 2011, Freddie Mercury was ranked second on Rolling Stone's readers' list. (*)
