Formed in 1990 in Seattle, Washington, they are one of the pioneers of grunge music, and are considered one of the big four along with Alice in Chains, Nirvana and Soundgarden.
Pearl Jam stands on the foundation of a long history of Seattle Sounds culture that began to be popular in the late 1980s.
Album Releases and Alternative Rock Music Icons
Pearl Jam first released an album in 1991, entitled Ten, and immediately skyrocketed as an alternative rock music icon in America.
In 1993, Pearl Jam released a second album entitled Vs which popularized a number of songs such as Daughter, Go or Rearviewmirror.
A year later, the third album, Vitalogy was released, also becoming the last album with drummer Dave Abruzzese.
In 1996, Pearl Jam released another album titled No Code. Two years later, Yield followed as their fifth album
Then, Pearl Jam released 3 albums, namely Binaural in 2000, Riot Act in 2003 and their last album published in 2006 titled Pearl Jam.
Concert Recordings and Compilations
In addition to eight albums, Pearl Jam has also released several concert recordings and compilations. In 2000, Pearl Jam released more than 70 of their concert recordings in America and Europe.
For compilation releases, in 2004 Pearl Jam, who also has the name Mookie Blaylock, released the album Lost Dogs.
The album contains a collection of songs from B-Sides, Christmas bonuses, and previously unreleased songs.
One of the Best-Selling Bands of All Time
Pearl Jam has sold more than 85 million albums worldwide as of 2018, including nearly 32 million albums in the United States in 2012, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time.
Pearl Jam was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 in its first year of eligibility.
They were ranked eighth in a readers' poll by Rolling Stone magazine in its "Ten Greatest Live Artists of All Time" issue. (*)
