FEMUSINDO.com - Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, with her famous name Shakira, is a Colombian singer who is famous for her hip swaying and distinctive singing voice.

In addition to being a singer, she is known as a songwriter, actress, musician, record producer, dancer and philanthropist who emerged as a musical genius in the field of Latin American music in the early 1990s.

Shakira who was born in Barranquilla, February 2, 1977, was raised in Barranquilla, Colombia. She has been working in the field of music since 1985.

First Album Release

Her first album Magia was recorded in 1991. From 1995-2000, she achieved success in Latin America and Spain.

In 1995, she released pies Descalzos, which brought her great fame in Latin America and Spain. Her 1998 album Dónde Están los Ladrones was a huge success.

Both were solidified by her success, most notably with one of the most successful songs of the 21st century to date, Hips Don't Lie.

In 2009, Shakira released an album called She Wolf, which spawned the hit single of the same name. In 2014, she released another album titled Shakira.

Some of Shakira's singles have been successful on various world charts, such as La Tortura, Beautiful Liat duet with Beyonce.

Then, Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) which became the main theme song for the World Cup, Loca, Chantaje duet with Latin male singer Maluma.

In 2022 Shakira released her collaboration single Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol.53 with Argentine producer Bizarrap.

The single was inspired by the betrayal of her ex-partner Gerard Pique who cheated on her.

This song went viral and became a world hit and reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, top 5 on the Billboard Global 200 Chart, and number one on the Billboard 200 Exc US.

In 2023, Shakira also released her collaboration with singer Karol G TQG. The single debuted at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.

Shakira's sixth top 10 single on the chart and number one on the Billboard Global 200, making it her first number one single.

Awards and Nominations

Throughout her career, Shakira has won two Grammy Awards, seven Latin Grammy Awards, twelve Billboard Latin Music Awards and has been nominated for a Golden Globe.

She is also the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time and the second most successful female Latin singer, having sold over 50 million albums worldwide.

She is also the only artist from South America to reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, the Australian ARIA chart, and the UK Singles Chart. (*)
