FEMUSINDO.com - Filippina Lydia Arena, better known as Tina Arena, is an Australian singer-songwriter, musician, musical theater actress and record producer.
She is one of Australia's highest-selling artists and has sold more than 10 million records worldwide.
Arena was born in Melbourne, Victoria, on November 1, 1967, and is a multilingual singer, singing and recording in English, Italian, French and Spanish.
Received National and International Awards
Arena has received several international and national awards, including a BRIT Award, seven ARIA Awards, and two World Music Awards for Best-Selling Australian Artist (1996, 2000).
In 2001, she was awarded the BMI Foundation Songwriting Award (Broadcast Music Inc) by the American performing rights organization for co-writing "Burn" with Pam Reswick and Steve Werfel.
In 2011, Arena became the first Australian to be knighted by the French National Order of National Merit, awarded by the President of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy.
Arena was knighted for her contributions to French culture, and was ceremonially presented by Frédéric Mitterrand, the French Minister of Culture and Communications.
Inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame
In 2015, Tina Arena, born in the Philippines Lydia Arena, was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame.
On Australia Day, 26 January 2016, Arena was recognised in the Australia Day Honours and appointed a member of the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to the music industry as a singer, songwriter and recording artist, and as a supporter of charitable groups.
In 2016 Arena was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). In March 2019, the Australian Government appointed Arena to the board of the Australia Council for the Arts for a three-year term. (*)
