Solana Imani Rowe or SZA was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, November 8, 1990, and raised in Maplewood, New Jersey.
Her father is an executive producer at CNN, while her mother is an executive at AT&T. SZA was born to African-American parents, a Christian mother and a Muslim father.
Release of Mini Albums and Hit Songs
In October 2012, SZA released her first mini album titled See.SZA.Run, then she released her second mini album S in April 2013.
In December 2013, SZA released the song "Teen Spirit" which was followed by a remix release featuring American rapper 50 Cent, along with a music video directed by APLUSFILMZ.
On March 26, 2014, R&B artist SZA released the single "Child's Play" featuring Chance the Rapper and produced by Dae One & XXYYXX.
An EP, Z, was released on April 8, 2014, followed by the lead single, "Babylon" accompanied by a music video directed by APLUSFILMZ and Jason Manawan.
On April 28, 2017, SZA signed her first major label record deal with RCA Records. On June 9, 2017, SZA released her debut album, Ctrl.
Ctrl, which scored 86 out of 100 on Metacritic, was ranked as the best album of 2017 by Time.
Received Five Grammy Nominations
On November 28, 2017, SZA received five Grammy nominations, including one for Best New Artist.
She received the most nominations for a female artist for the 2018 Awards and became the fourth-most nominated artist in total.
Despite this, SZA ultimately did not win any of the awards she was nominated for at the event.
Breaking Records for Collaborations
SZA was nominated for the Golden Globe and Academy Awards for Best Original Song for her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar on the US and UK top ten single "All the Stars".
Her featured performance on Doja Cat's "Kiss Me More" broke the record for the longest-running all-female collaboration in the US top ten, and won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
SZA's second album, SOS (2022), spent ten consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 and broke the record for the largest streaming week for an R&B album in the US.
Received Multiple Awards
Throughout her career, SZA has received several awards, including four Grammy Awards, a Brit Award, an American Music Award, a Guild of Music Supervisors Award and two Billboard Women in Music Awards, including Woman of the Year.
As a songwriter, he has co-written songs for Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Travis Scott, Schoolboy Q and Rihanna.
