FEMUSINDO.com - Formed in 2000 in Bandung, West Java, Noah --- previously named Peterpan, is an Indonesian rock music group.

Since its inception, Peterpan has targeted cafes as their stage. For two years, Peterpan performed at the O'Hara cafe, after that for about a year at the Sapu Lidi cafe.

This music group was formed under the name Peterpan by Ariel (vocals, acoustic guitar, tambourine), Andika (keyboard, piano), Indra (bass guitar), Lukman (lead guitar), Reza (drums, percussion), and Uki (rhythm guitar).

Entered the Compilation Album

Their appearance caught the attention of Java Jive bass guitarist, Noey, who included their song "Mimpi yang Sempurna" on the major label compilation album Musica Studio's Kisah 2002 Malam (2002).

The success of the song as the album's lead single earned Peterpan a contract with Musica Studio's and Peterpan released their first studio album Taman Langit in 2003.

This was followed by their second studio album Bintang di Surga (2004) which was a success and became one of the best-selling albums in Indonesia with sales of over three million copies.

Seeing this success, the following year they were chosen to fill the theme song for the 2005 Indonesian drama film Alexandria, releasing a theme song album of the same title.

Internal Conflict and Album Release

In October 2006, an internal conflict occurred within Peterpan which led to the departure of Andika and Indra from the group.

After the departure of the two personnel, they released their third and final studio album under the name Peterpan, Hari yang Cerah... (2007) following Andika's mother's objections to continuing their career using the name Peterpan.

As a release from the name Peterpan, they released the best-selling album Sebuah Nama, Sebuah Cerita (2008) and was followed by the appointment of additional personnel David (keyboardist) as a permanent member. In 2009, Peterpan officially dropped their name.

For a while, ex-Peterpan used each personnel's name as the group name while planning a new name.

However, in mid-2010, Ariel was arrested in a case that ensnared him and he was declared conditional release on July 23, 2012.

New Name, Noah

On August 2, 2012, Ariel, Uki, Lukman, Reza and David, announced the new name of their music group, Noah.

On August 3, 2012, Noah released their first single, "Separuh Aku" followed by their first studio album Seperti Harus (2012) which achieved commercial success by selling over one million copies.

Noah's overall discography includes five studio albums. Three albums have been released by Noah, including non-studio albums.

Received Many Awards

Their music is generally in the alternative rock and pop rock genre, most of the songs are written by the vocalist, Ariel.

More than nine million albums have been sold in Indonesia, making Noah the best-selling alternative rock band in the country. Noah currently consists of Ariel, Lukman, and David (keyboard).

During their career, Noah received three Anugerah Musik Indonesia awards for Best Album, two MTV Asia Awards, and three nominations at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Noah has also won MURI awards for their series of concerts, namely a concert held in six provinces in one day on July 18, 2004 and a concert in five countries in one day on September 16, 2012.

In 2024, the band Noah announced their departure from the Indonesian music industry. This announcement was made by Ariel et al in a NOAH upload on his Instagram.

Officially announcing their departure from the Indonesian music scene, fans' reactions were mixed. Some were not sure the band would be leaving forever. Many hoped they would only take a short break. (*)
