FEMUSINDO.com - Vicente Fernández Gómez, with his famous name Vicente Fernández, was born in Huentitán el Alto, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, on February 17, 1940.
He is a Mexican mariachi singer, actor, and film producer nicknamed "Chente" (short for Vicente) and "El Charro de Huentitán" (Charro from Huentitán).
In addition, he is also nicknamed "El Ídolo de México" (The Idol of Mexico) and "El Rey de la Música Ranchera" (King of Ranchera Music).
Starting His Career as a Street Busker
Fernández began his career as a street busker, and went on to become a cultural icon, having recorded over 100 albums and contributed to over 30 films.
Vicente Fernández's best-known works include rancheras and other Mexican classics such as waltzes.
Fernández's work has earned him four Grammy Awards, nine Latin Grammy Awards, fourteen Lo Nuestro Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Best-Selling Regional Artist
He has sold over 50 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling regional Mexican artists of all time.
In 2016, Fernandez retired from live performance, although he continues to record and publish music.
In 2023, Rolling Stone named Fernandez the greatest Mexican singer of all time and the 95th greatest overall on their list of the "200 Greatest Singers of All Time".
Vicente Fernández Gómez died in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, on December 12, 2021 at the age of 81. (*)
