Wilson Pickett Key Figure in The Development of Soul Music



FEMUSINDO.com - Wilson Pickett was a singer and songwriter who was born in Prattville, Alabama, U.S., March 18, 1941 and died in Reston, Virginia, U.S., January 19, 2006.

As a key figure in the development of soul music, Pickett recorded more than 50 songs that entered the US R&B charts.

Many of his songs entered the Billboard Hot 100 and occupied prestigious positions on the charts during his time.

Among his most famous hits, such as "In the Midnight Hour" (which he co-wrote), "Land of 1000 Dances" and "634-5789 (Soulsville, USA)".

Then, his other popular songs are "Mustang Sally", "Funky Broadway", "Engine No. 9", and "Don't Knock My Love".

Pickett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, recognizing his influence on songwriting and recording.

In 1993, the soul, R&B and southern soul singer received the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation.

In 2005, Wilson Pickett was elected to the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame. In 2015, Wilson Pickett was inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame. (*)
