FEMUSINDO.com - The American Music Awards (AMAs) are an annual American music awards show, generally held in the fall.
The American Music Awards were founded by Dick Clark in 1973 for ABC when the network's contract to air the Grammy Awards ended.
From 1973 to 2005, both winners and nominees were selected by members of the music industry, based on commercial performance, such as sales and airplay.
Since 2006, winners have been determined by public and fan polls, which can vote through the AMAs website.
Because its contract expires after the 2022 event, the American Music Awards are temporarily suspended.
In 2024, it was announced that the AMAs would be moved to CBS as part of a package with its rights to broadcast DCP's Golden Globe Awards.
A special 50th anniversary event aired on October 6, and the AMAs are scheduled to return in 2025. (*)
