FEMUSINDO.com - Indonesian Music Awards or often called and abbreviated as AMI Awards, formerly BASF Awards and HDX Awards, is an award given by the Indonesian Music Awards Foundation (YAMI).
This prestigious music award in Indonesia is the brainchild of the Recording Industry Association (ASIRI), the Association of Indonesian Recording Artists, Singers, Songwriters, and Arrangers (PAPPRI), and Karya Cipta Indonesia (KCI).
The concept of this award refers to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), the committee that organizes the Grammy Awards in the United States.
In addition, the concept of this award also refers to the British Phonographic Industry (BIP), the committee that organizes the Brit Awards in the United Kingdom.
Indonesian Music Awards is the highest awards event for the Indonesian music industry with a status equal to the Indonesian Television Awards for the television industry and the Indonesian Film Festival or Indonesian Movie Actors Awards for the film industry.
History of the Indonesian Music Awards
The two annual award events, the BASF Awards and the HDX Awards, were first held in 1985.
After being held consecutively for eleven years until 1996, the two award events were then discontinued and replaced by the Indonesian Music Awards.
The AMI was first held in 1997 as the successor to the BASF and HDX awards and has had 25 events by 2022.
In 2007, the AMI was on hiatus. However, in that year the AMI Dangdut Awards were held for the first time as an award event specifically for the dangdut music category.
Unfortunately, due to one reason or another, the award event was never held again the following year.
AMI Award Categories
The Indonesian Music Awards provide awards in various categories. Each category covers specific contributions from the Indonesian music industry.
The categories in the AMI have changed several times. The 2010 awards had 35 categories, while in 2011 there were 46 categories. This category increased to 49 in 2017.
Throughout the history of the event, Anugerah Musik Indonesia has added and removed various award categories.
In addition to presenting regular categories such as Best Album and Best Singer in various music fields, AMI also provides several special awards without nominations.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is given annually specifically to people who have contributed to the development of Indonesian music.
Anugerah Musik Indonesia once awarded the Best Foreign Artist award to Siti Nurhaliza in 2000.
Then, AMI also gave a special award for Best International Artist to Anggun C. Sasmi in 2006 for her achievements as an Indonesian singer with a brilliant international career. (*)
