FEMUSINDO.com - George Ivan Morrison, popularly known as Van Morrison, was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on August 31, 1945.
He is a singer-songwriter and musician whose music career has spanned seven decades.
He has been in the music world since 1958, and became famous for singing his main songs, such as "Brown Eyed Girl", "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile)", "Domino" and "Wild Night".
Started Performing as a Teenager
Morrison began performing as a teenager in the late 1950s, playing various instruments including guitar, harmonica, keyboards, and saxophone for various Irish show bands, performing popular hits of the time.
Known as "Van the Man" to his fans, Morrison rose to fame in the mid-1960s as the lead singer of the Belfast R&B band Them.
His solo career began under the guidance of pop-oriented Bert Berns with the release of the hit single "Brown Eyed Girl" in 1967.
Album Releases and Live Performances
Moondance (1970) established Morrison as a major artist, and he built his reputation throughout the 1970s with a series of acclaimed albums and live performances.
He has had four consecutive top-ten albums in the UK in four consecutive decades, following the success of 2021's Latest Record Project, Volume 1.
Eighteen of his albums have reached the top 40 in the US, twelve of them between 1997 and 2017.
Since turning 70 in 2015, he has released an average of more than one album a year.
Receive Prestigious Awards
He has received two Grammy Awards, the 1994 Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music and the 2017 Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting.
Not only that, Morrison who sings in many genres has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
In 2016, he was knighted for his services to the music industry and tourism in Northern Ireland. (*)
