FEMUSINDO.com - In this world, there are many musicians who have succeeded in creating fantastic works to become influential and famous.
Because of their fame, it is not surprising that this has led them to fantastic wealth as well.
Not only from singing, they get their wealth from their income as a business, album sales, royalties, endorsements, and so on.
Based on calculations by leading publications, such as Forbes and The Sunday Times Rich List, by 2024, five music artists have achieved billionaire status in the Forbes report.
In 2024, American rapper Jay-Z is estimated to be the richest music artist in the world with a net worth of US$2.5 billion.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift was named the richest female musician in the world with a net worth of USD 1.6 billion.
Taylor Swift, the first billionaire with music as her main income, and Rihanna, the first female artist to become a billionaire.
When the Forbes 400 Richest Americans debuted in 1982, Yoko Ono was the only musician listed.
Yoko Ono's net worth was $150 million (equivalent to $474 million in 2023), largely due to music royalties from her late husband's band, The Beatles.
In 1991, Forbes estimated Michael Jackson's net worth at $230 million (equivalent to $515 million in 2023).
Michael Jackson's fortune made him the richest musician and the second-richest entertainer, behind comedian Bill Cosby. Jackson's estate is estimated to be worth more than $2 billion by 2024.
The Forbes list is dominated by American artists, while musicians from other countries have built their fortunes primarily in the U.S., such as Celine Dion.
Reports from other business-related publications such as Bloomberg LP may differ. For example, they valued Kanye West at $6.6 billion in 2021, while West himself was estimated to be worth at least $3.3 billion in 2020.
Outside of Forbes, net worth estimates can vary widely between the same artist and different sources.
That’s because multiple media outlets have published estimates from websites and lists like CelebrityNetWorth, Bankrate and the Sunday Times Rich List.
While denied by Forbes, artists like Bono and Paul McCartney have been claimed to have reached billionaire status. (*)
