FEMUSINDO.com - National Music Day is a commemoration of music day in Indonesia which falls on every March 9, equated with the birthday of national hero Wage Rudolf Soepratman.
Through Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 10 of 2013 concerning National Music Day, this commemoration was first carried out on March 9, 2013.
The Presidential Decree also states that the commemoration of National Music Day is not a national holiday.
The Keppres also explains that music is a universal and multidimensional cultural expression that represents the noble values of humanity and has a strategic role in national development.
The government sees the need to establish National Music Day in an effort to increase public appreciation of Indonesian music and increase the self-confidence and motivation of Indonesian musicians.
Then, the establishment of National Music Day is also to increase achievements that can raise the status of Indonesian music nationally, regionally and internationally.
The purpose of the commemoration of National Music Day is to strive to increase appreciation for Indonesian music.
Although it was only launched in 2013, the proposal of the Association of Indonesian Singers, Composers and Music Recorders (PAPPRI) had actually been echoed since the era of Megawati Soekarnoputri as president.
At that time, the commemoration of National Music Day had been proposed through the third PAPPRI congress in 1998 and the fourth congress in 2002. However, it was only realized a decade later.
It is hoped that in the commemoration of National Music Day, the Indonesian people will prefer the works produced by Indonesian musicians as well as the instruments and musical heritage typical of the nation. (*)
