The duo, which has been active since 1988 until now, has become the best-selling artist based on the number of albums sold.
The Beginning of B'z
B'z began in 1987, when guitarist Tak Matsumoto, who worked for record producer Being, wanted to start his own band.
As a studio musician, Matsumoto had experience as a supporting musician in concerts by TM Network and Mari Hamada.
In May 1988, Matsumoto received a demo tape from Nagato, which contained Koshi Inaba's voice.
In short, Matsumoto and Koshi Inaba met, formed B'z, and released their first single "Dakara Sono Te o Hanashite" and their first album on September 21, 1988.
Tours and Album Releases
When they were new, B'z was included in the TM Network tour. However, their first single and album did not enter the Oricon top 100 at all.
B'z only became popular after releasing the mini album Bad Communication in 1989. The title track "Bad Communication" began to attract the attention of Usen cable radio listeners.
For 163 weeks, "Bad Communication" remained as a hit song on the Oricon charts, although it never entered the top 10.
Their 4th single, "Be There" was B'z's first song to enter the Oricon top 10.
In the same year, B'z finally managed to place their 5th single, "Taiyō no Komachi Angel" at number one on Oricon.
Immortalized on Hollywood's RockWalk
After "Taiyo no Komachi Angel", every single released by B'z has always ranked number one on Oricon.
In 2007, at the recommendation of Steve Vai, B'z became the first Asian to have their palm print and signature immortalized on Hollywood's RockWalk.
To date, B'z have released 41 singles and 23 albums, all of which have consecutively reached number one, and their records have sold more than 78 million copies in Japan. (*)
