What is a Tone? Here is The Definition, Function and Types

In music, tone is a marker of high or low sound that can be arranged in a scale (English: Scales).

The function of tone is to maintain the harmony of the song. In music, tone is often referred to as a note, although the two actually have different meanings.

In music theory, each tone has a certain pitch according to its frequency or the relative distance of the pitch of the note to the reference pitch.

The basic tone of a musical work determines the frequency of each note in the work. Tones can be arranged in different scales.

In a good song, there is a certain distance between one note and another, namely 1/2, 1, 1 ½ and 2. This distance determines the variation of tones and types of scales.

The tones in notes are divided into 3 forms, namely number notes, letter notes, and staff notes. Number notes are divided into 3, namely high octave, middle octave, and low octave.

Meanwhile, letter notation is divided into 5, namely small octave, 1-lined octave, large octave, counter octave and subcontra.

Minor notes

Major notes
The distance between notes is 1-1-1 / 2-1-1-1-1 / 2. Songs with major notes can give a cheerful, cheerful, and enthusiastic impression.

Chromatic notes
Also known as sharps, occur on the basic note with an increase of 1 or ½ tone.
