FEMUSINDO.com - Hikaru Utada or often called Hikki by her fans, is a famous Japanese singer.
Utada was born in New York City, United States, January 19, 1983 from Japanese parents. Her mother Keiko Fuji is an enka singer, while her father Teruzane Utada is a record producer.
She is known to the public as a musician who can speak two languages fluently because she was raised in two countries, Japan and the United States.
Started Writing Music and Lyrics at a Young Age
Hikaru Utada grew up on the Upper East Side, New York, and moved to Tokyo, Japan, at the age of 11 because of her parents' jobs. At the age of 10, Utada began writing music and lyrics.
Initially, Utada embraced the R&B music genre with low beats, but now her music is more towards the experimental pop genre.
Mastering the guitar and piano, Utada has released four albums in Japanese. In 2005, she attempted an international career with an English-language album titled Exodus under the name "UTADA".
Charting and Receiving Many Awards
Hikaru Utada's songs have topped the Oricon charts many times. She is widely known in other countries thanks to her single "First Love".
Throughout her career, Hikaru Utada has won many awards, including 39 Japan Gold Disc Awards -- the 3rd most of any artist in the history of the event.
