FEMUSINDO.com - Aerosmith is a famous rock band from the United States (US). Although they were formed in Boston, Massachusetts, none of their members are from there.
The three members, Steven Tallarico (Tyler), Joe Perry, and Tom Hamilton met in Sunapee, New Hampshire in the late 1960s but had not yet formed a band.
Tyler was from Yonkers, New York, Perry from Hopedale, Massachusetts, and Hamilton from New London, New Hampshire. In 1970, the three decided to form a band, and moved to Boston, Massachusetts.
Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton moved to Boston in September 1970. There they met Joey Kramer, who happened to be from Yonkers, New York, and knew Steven Tallarico (later Tyler).
The Establishment of the Band
After that, they heard Perry and Hamilton play and Kramer agreed to join. Steven Tyler then came to Boston in October 1970 and Aerosmith was born.
Initially Ray Tabano played rhythm guitar but he was replaced in 1971 by Brad Whitford from Reading, Massachusetts. Apart from a period from July 1979 to April 1984, this was Aerosmith's permanent lineup.
In 1972, Aerosmith signed a contract with the record label Columbia Records. Shortly thereafter they released a series of albums that achieved Gold and Platinum Album sales certificates.
During the 70s Aerosmith had a very busy touring schedule and their songs always managed to top the charts in various countries.
Aerosmith's Success Era
These years were the era of Aerosmith's success. By the end of this decade Aerosmith became the most popular rock band in the world and had a fan base called the Blue Army.
Unfortunately, drug addiction and internal conflicts within the band led Aerosmith to disintegrate. Eventually Joe Perry and Brad Whitford decided to leave the band in 1979 and 1981.
Between 1980 and 1984 could be said to be the lowest period for Aerosmith. They had released one album titled Rock in a Hard Place.
This album managed to get a Gold Album sales certificate but failed to match their previous success.
Contract and Album Release
Joe Perry and Brad Withford returned to Aerosmith in 1984 and the band signed a contract with Geffen Records.
After their comeback tour, Aerosmith released the album Done With Mirrors in 1985 which received a lot of praise but failed to achieve commercial success.
Aerosmith achieved their success again after collaborating with the Rap group Run-D.M.C. in 1986.
And at its peak in 1987 they released the album Permanent Vacation which managed to achieve a Multi-Platinum sales certificate. Aerosmith also achieved the same popularity as in the 70s.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
To date, Aerosmith is the most successful American band in terms of album sales. Their total album sales are 150 million copies.
Meanwhile, the total sales certificates they managed to achieve were 25 gold albums, 18 platinum albums, and 12 multi-platinum albums.
In 2001, Aerosmith entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Two years later toxic twin Steven Tyler and Joe Perry entered the Songwriters Hall of Fame. (*)
