FEMUSINDO.com - Formed on August 26, 1986 in Surabaya, Dewa 19, or simply called Dewa, an Indonesian rock band led by Ahmad Dhani and Andra Ramadhan.
The group has undergone several personnel changes and its current formation is Ahmad Dhani (keyboard), Andra Junaidi (guitar), Yuke Sampurna (bass), and Agung Yudha (drums).
After dominating festival stages in the late 1980s, Dewa 19 then moved to Jakarta and released its first recording in 1992.
Achieving Success
The group achieved success throughout the 1990s with vocalist Ari Lasso and the 2000s with vocalist Once Mekel.
Dewa 19 released four studio albums with Ari, namely 19 (1992), Format Masa Depan (1994), Terbaik Terbaik (1995) and Pandawa Lima (1997).
They also produced hit songs, such as "Kangen", "Aku Milikmu", "Cukup Siti Nurbaya", "Cinta Kan Membawamu Kembali", "Kirana", "Kamulah Satu-Satunya", and "Elang".
Soaring
After Ari's position was replaced by Once in 1999, Dewa 19's career skyrocketed with the release of the albums Bintang Lima (2000) and Cintailah Cinta (2002), each of which sold more than one million copies.
Once recorded two other full albums, namely Laskar Cinta (2004) and Republik Cinta (2006). Hit songs born in the Once era include "Roman Picisan", "Risalah Hati", "Separuh Nafas", "Arjuna", "Pupus", "Pangeran Cinta", "Larut", and "Dewi".

After Once left in 2011, Dewa continued as a "band without a vocalist". Ten years later, Virzha and Ello were officially recruited to fill the main vocals with the concept of guest appearances (collaboration).
Starting in 2021, Dewa 19 has re-recorded many of their old songs with the two vocalists. Since 2012, the group has also started holding reunion concerts featuring former members.
Stadium Tours and Solo Concerts
Entering the 2020s, Dewa 19 has successfully held several stadium tours in Indonesia and Malaysia. They managed to break the record for the single concert with the highest number of spectators in Indonesia.
Their audience, which was 75,000 people at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), was later surpassed by 85,000 people at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK).
In the history of Indonesian music, Dewa 19 is one of the most influential groups. In 2008, Dewa 19 was included in the list of "The Immortals: 25 Greatest Indonesian Artists of All Time" by Rolling Stone magazine.
Won Many Awards
During their music career, Dewa 19 has also received many awards, including the Anugerah Khas at the 2005 Anugerah Planet Muzik event in Singapore.
In the same year, Hai magazine named Dewa 19 as the richest band in Indonesia with revenues reaching more than 14 billion a year.
Until 2023, Dewa 19 also still holds the status as one of the most expensive artists in Indonesia.
Dewa 19 also managed to achieve cross-generational existence and is the most senior artist among the top 10 most popular Indonesian artists on Spotify with a total of more than 1 billion streaming media. (*)
