Mr. Big, Legendary World Hard Rock Group

FEMUSINDO.com - Mr. Big is a legendary hard rock group formed in 1988 in California, United States (US).

The band is a quartet consisting of Eric Martin (vocals), Paul Gilbert (guitar), Billy Sheehan (bass), and Pat Torpey (drums). Mr. Big was also strengthened by Richie Kotzen, who replaced Gilbert in 1999.

The band is known primarily for its musician reputation and success in scoring a number of hits. Their songs are often marked by strong vocals and vocal harmonies.

The band, which was newly formed at that time, hired Herbie Herbert, former manager of Journey, Europe and Santana, to be their manager.

In 1989, they signed with Atlantic Records and released their self-titled debut in the same year.

This record did not get enough reception in the United States, but was successful in Japan. In June 1990, the group toured America to open for the band Rush.

Mr Big's second album, 1991's Lean Into It, was a commercial success, mainly due to the singles "To Be With You" reaching number one in fifteen countries and "Just Take My Heart" and "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind".

They toured the UK in April and May 1991 and again in 1992, releasing a live album, Mr Big Live, in 1992. For three nights, they played as the opening act for Aerosmith at Wembley Arena, London.

In 1993, another ballad, a cover of Cat Stevens' "Wild World" from their third album, Bump Ahead, reached number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band also contributed to the soundtrack for the Sega Mega CD release The Amazing Spider-Man vs. Kingpin.

They released Hey Man in 1995. One of the singles from that album, "Take Cover", was included on the soundtrack for the Mega Man cartoon series.

Although the band's previous success was difficult to replicate in the US market, their popularity continued to skyrocket in Asia, especially Japan. They also gained new fans in Southeast Asia such as Thailand and Indonesia.

In Japan and throughout Asia, on the other hand, they successfully toured and released several live albums for the Japanese market.

Live At Budokan was one of the releases intended for the Japanese market only. By the time the album came out, the band members were more busy with other projects so the band temporarily disbanded in 1997.

It is known that Mr Big remained active and popular for more than two decades, despite internal conflicts and changing music trends. They disbanded in 2002, but after fan requests reunited in 2009.

After reuniting, their first tour was in Japan in June 2009 and continued with other tours in several countries, including Indonesia. (*)
