FEMUSINDO.com - Founded by a group of high school students on May 6, 1996, Sheila on 7 is an Indonesian alternative rock music group from Yogyakarta.
The first formation was Duta (vocals) from SMA Negeri 4, Adam (bass guitar) from SMA Negeri 6, Eross (guitar) from SMA Muhammadiyah 1, Sakti (guitar) from SMA De Britto and Anton (drums) from SMA Bopkri I.
When it was first established, the group was named "Sheila". Not long after, they added the word "Gank", until it became "Sheila Gank".
"Sheila Gank" had been around in high school music group pensi-pensi and festivals throughout Central Java and DIY for approximately 2 years.
Recording Contract
In mid-1998, they finally got their first "recording contract" with the label Sony Music Entertainment Indonesia.
They then changed the name of their music group to "Sheila On 7". "On 7" means solmization or 7 scales (do re mi fa sol la si).
The name "Sheila On 7" roughly means "Sheila's" friends who play 7 notes or play music. While the name "Sheila Gank" is used as a term for loyal listeners of their works.

Music Group Personnel
This music group now consists of Akhdiyat Duta Modjo (Duta), Eross Candra (Eross), and Adam Muhammad Subarkah (Adam).
They have changed members several times since being formed with the formation of Duta (vocals), Saktia "Sakti" Ari Seno (guitar), Eross (guitar), Adam (bass guitar) and Anton Widiastanto (drums).
Anton was released in 2004, followed by Sakti who left in 2006. Next, Brian Kresna Putro joined as a permanent drummer and replaced Anton for 18 years until he was finally released in 2022.
Achievements
In the Indonesian music scene, Sheila on 7 has made many achievements, including being the only Indonesian music group that was able to sell more than 1 million physical copies of an album—3 albums in a row.
Through the success of Sheila On 7's debut album (1999), followed by 2 other albums that exploded in the market, Kisah Klasik untuk Masa Depan (2000) and 07 Des (2002).
On January 26, 2018, Sheila on 7 released their single entitled "Film Favorit" under their own label called 507 Records. (*)
