FEMUSINDO.com - Charlotte Emma Aitchison, known professionally as Charli XCX, is an English singer and songwriter.
Charli XCX was born in Cambridge, August 2, 1992 and raised in Start Hill, Essex. She is the only child of a nurse and flight attendant, Shameera, with businessman and show booker, Jon Aitchison.
She began uploading songs on Myspace in 2008, which led to her being discovered by a promoter who invited her to perform at parties.
In 2010, she signed a record deal with Asylum Records, releasing a series of singles and mixtapes throughout 2011 and 2012.
Collaborations and Studio Album Releases
In 2012, Charli XCX rose to fame when she collaborated with Swedish duo Icona Pop on "I Love It", which became an international success. Her debut studio album, True Romance (2013), was released to positive reception but failed to meet commercial expectations.
In 2014, she contributed the hook and bridge to "Fancy" by Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, which ended the year as one of the best-selling singles worldwide and was nominated for two Grammy Awards.
That same year, Charli XCX released "Boom Clap", which became her first solo top ten single on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her second studio album, the punk-influenced Sucker (2014), was released later in the year and spawned the hit singles "Break the Rules" and "Doing It".
Tops the UK Albums Chart
Charli XCX began working with producers associated with the British collective PC Music in 2015, developing a more experimental sound and image.
She released the EP Vroom Vroom (2016), the mixtapes Number 1 Angel and Pop 2 (both 2017), and the studio albums Charli (2019) and How I'm Feeling Now (2020) to critical acclaim.
Her fifth studio album, Crash (2022), became her first to reach number one on the UK Albums Chart.
She released the UK top ten single "Speed Drive" as part of the soundtrack to the 2023 film Barbie.
Critical Acclaim and Widespread Media Coverage
In 2024, Charli XCX released her sixth studio album, Brat, to critical acclaim and wide media coverage.
The album topped the UK Albums Chart and spawned the commercially successful singles "360" and "Apple", as well as "Guess" featuring Billie Eilish, which became her first number one hit as a lead artist on the UK Singles Chart.
The album and its songs earned her seven Grammy Award nominations at the 67th annual ceremony, including Album of the Year.
Writing Other Artists' Songs and Awards
In addition to her solo work, Charli XCX has co-written songs for other artists, including Iggy Azalea's "Beg for It" (2014) and Selena Gomez's "Same Old Love" (2015).
Then, Blondie's "Tonight" (2017), Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's collaboration "SeƱorita" (2019), and Sigala and Rita Ora's collaboration "You for Me" (2021).
She was awarded the ASCAP Global Impact Award in 2024 in recognition of her contributions to pop music and was included in Gold House's 2024 list of the most influential Asian A100.
