FEMUSINDO.com - Van Morrison is a legendary singer, songwriter and musician from Northern Ireland whose music career has spanned seven decades.
His famous songs include "Brown Eyed Girl", "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile)", "Domino" and "Wild Night".
Van Morrison's full name is George Ivan Morrison, born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on August 31, 1945.
Morrison began performing as a teenager in the late 1950s and rose to fame in the mid-1960s as the lead singer of the R&B band Belfast Them.
Under the guidance of Bert Berns who was oriented towards pop hits, he began his solo career by releasing the hit single "Brown Eyed Girl" in 1967.
Morrison became a major artist through the album Moondance (1970). He is known to his fans as "Van the Man".
He built his reputation throughout the 1970s with a series of acclaimed albums and live shows.
Morrison has had four consecutive top ten albums in the UK for decades, following the success of 2021's Latest Record Project, Volume 1.
He has had 18 albums in the US, twelve of them between 1997 and 2017. Since turning 70 in 2015, he has released an average of more than one album a year.
During his musical career, he has received two Grammy Awards, the 1994 Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music and the 2017 Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting.
Morrison, who sings in many genres, has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
For his services to the music industry and tourism in Northern Ireland, Morrison was knighted in 2016. (*)
