FEMUSINDO.com - Status Quo is a rock band from London, England, founded in 1962 by Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster while they were still in school.
After several name and line-up changes, including the addition of John Coghlan in 1963 and Rick Parfitt in 1967, the group became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969.
As of 2022, the group has been active for 60 consecutive years. Despite announcing their break-up in 1984, they played at Live Aid the following year and resumed normal activities in 1986.
Has Had Over 60 Chart Hits
They have had over 60 chart hits in the UK, including "Pictures of Matchstick Men" (their first charting song), "Caroline" (their first top 5 hit), and "Down Down" (their only No. 1 hit).
Twenty-two of these songs reached the Top 10 on the UK Singles Chart, and fifty-seven of them reached the Top 40.
They have released over 100 singles and 33 studio albums, most of which have been best-selling.
Since reaching number 5 on the UK album chart in 1972 with Piledriver, Status Quo have had 29 consecutive studio albums in the UK chart.
Their twenty-nine studio albums include 20 top ten studio albums, extending to their latest release, Backbone, in 2019.
Best-Selling Group of All Time
In 2012, they were announced as the tenth best-selling group of all time on the UK Singles Chart with sales of 7.2 million singles in their home country.
In 2015, they were one of only 50 artists to achieve more than 500 total weeks on the UK Albums Chart.
In July 1985 the band opened Live Aid at Wembley Stadium with "Rockin' All Over the World". In 1991, Status Quo received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.
In 2014, while preparing to headline that year's Download Festival, Status Quo won the Service to Rock award at the Kerrang! Awards.
Appearance on BBC's Top of The Pops
Status Quo have appeared on BBC's Top of The Pops more than any other band. Their success and longevity is also due, in part, to their connection to the British Royal Family.
Often described as a “national institution” by the media, the band claims to have sold 118 million records worldwide.
Status Quo have performed a career total of at least 3,700 documented shows as of September 2022. (*)
