The Weeknd Canadian Singer, Songwriter and Record Producer, Grammy Award and Juno Award Winner



FEMUSINDO.com - Abel Makkonen Tesfaye or better known by his stage name The Weeknd, is a singer, songwriter and record producer from Canada.

The singer, born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on February 16, 1990, began his popularity by anonymously uploading several songs to YouTube under the name "The Weeknd" in late 2010.

He released three nine-song mixtapes throughout 2011: House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence, which received a warm welcome.

Release of Trilogy Compilation Album

In 2012, he released a compilation album Trilogy, thirty songs consisting of remastered mixtapes and three additional songs. The album was released under the Republic Records label and his own label XO.

In 2013, he released his debut studio album Kiss Land, supported by the singles "Kiss Land" and "Live For".

His second album, Beauty Behind the Madness, which became his first number-one album on the US Billboard 200, included the number-three single "Earned It" and produced the number-one singles "The Hills" and "Can't Feel My Face".

The songs reached the top three on Billboard's Hot R&B Songs chart, making him the first artist in history to achieve this.

Won a Grammy Award and a Juno Award

Throughout his career in music, The Weeknd has won at least two Grammy Awards and nine Juno Awards.

In September 2016, the release of his third album Starboy was announced along with the release of the lead single "Starboy", which went on to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Weeknd is also one of the 10 best-selling singing artists on Spotify in 2024 alongside Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Drake, Billie Eilish, Travis Scott, Peso Pluma, Kanye West, Ariana Grande and Feid. (*)
