She was one of the main figures of the tropicalia music scene in Brazil in the late 1960s and appeared on the famous compilation Tropicália: ou Panis et Circencis (1968).

She has been actively singing from 1965 to 2022 under the labels RCAP, hilips, PolyGram and Universal. In 2011, Costa received the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
The singer of the MPB, Tropicália, psychedelic rock, bossa nova and pop genres, died in São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil, on November 9, 2022 at the age of 77.
In 2023, Rolling Stone ranked Costa at number 90 on its list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. (*)
