FEMUSINDO.com - Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, known professionally as Chappell Roan, is an American singer and songwriter.
The synth-pop, dark pop and indie pop singer and songwriter was born in Willard, Missouri, on February 19, 1998.
Her music, created with Dan Nigro, is heavily inspired by 1980s synth-pop and early 2000s pop hits.
Roan's aesthetic, heavily influenced by drag queens, has led to her music and performance style being called "campy".
Uploading Original Songs and Recording Deal
At the age of 17, Roan uploaded her original song "Die Young" to YouTube, which led to her signing with Atlantic Records shortly after.
She debuted with the EP School Nights in 2017. Her 2020 single "Pink Pony Club" marked a significant shift in musical style.
The song also contributed to her early rise to fame, although she was dropped from Atlantic Records that same year.
Best Albums Lists
After a brief hiatus, Roan released a series of songs independently in 2022. Her first album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, was released through Island Records in 2023.
While not an immediate commercial success, the album was included on several best albums of 2023 lists and developed a cult following in early 2024, earning the title of "sleeper hit."
The album's commercial success was further boosted by Roan's appearance as a support act on Olivia Rodrigo's Guts World Tour.
She also performed at music festivals such as Coachella and Governors Ball, and her single "Good Luck, Babe!" was a commercial success. In July 2024, Chappell Roan's single "Good Luck Babe!" made his first top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
That same year, Chappell Roan received the Best New Artist award at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). (*)
