Kahitna Music Group With Original Arrangements and Combining Musical Elements

FEMUSINDO.com - Kahitna is a music group from Bandung, Indonesia, which was formed in 1983. The name Kahitna itself comes from the Tagalog language, which means "even so".

The word was then twisted into Sundanese "Ka" and "Na" which are prefixes and suffixes. So when combined it means "the most hits".

Kahitna personnel consist of Yovie Widianto (pianist, keyboardist & synthesizer), Hedi Yunus (vocalist), Carlo Saba (vocalist) and Mario Ginanjar (vocalist).

Next, there are Dody Isnaini (bassist), Harry Suhardiman (percussion), Bambang Purwono (keyboardist & synthesizer), Budiana Nugraha (drummer) and Andrie Bayuaji (guitarist).

Previously, there was one personnel who had joined Kahitna, but eventually chose to leave and pursue a solo career, namely Ronni Waluya.

Starting from the Festival and Cafe Stage

The music group led by Yovie Widianto was previously called Coops Rhythm Section in 1983-1985 and Indonesia 6 in 1985-1986.

The music group that began its career through the festival and cafe stages is recognized as having the strength of its musical arrangements which are fairly original.

Although they often carry the theme of love in their lyrics, Kahitna is able to combine elements of jazz, pop, fusion, Latin and even ethnic music into a captivating musical concoction.

Album Releases and Hits

Kahitna's albums include Love Stories (1994), Beautiful (1995), Until Later (1998), Permaisuriku (2000) and The Best of Kahitna (2002).

Then, Love is Past (2003) and Soulmate (2006), More Than Just Beautiful (2010), Love Stories: 25 Years of Kahitna (2011) and Secret of Love (2016).

Kahitna's hit songs include "Permaisuriku", "Engga Ngerti", "Cantik", "Cerita Cinta", "Setahun Lewat Lalu" and "Tak Sebebas Merpati".

There are also songs titled "Seandainya Aku Bisa Terbang", "Bila Saya", "Merenda Kasih", "Sampai Nanti", "Andai Dia Tahu" and "Masih Ada Diriku".

Release of a New Album

After being rarely heard, in early 2010 Yovie and friends released a new album, Lebih Dari Sekedar Cantik.

With the hero single "Untukku" which was once sung by the late Chrisye, this latest album provides another touch, namely carrying jazz music as the basis of its music.

In early 2023, one of Kahitna's vocalists, Carlo Saba, passed away at the age of 54. After Carlo's death, Kahitna left 8 personnel, including Hedi and Mario (vocalists). (*)
