Oasis Holds Guinness World Record as Most Successful Music Entity



FEMUSINDO.com - Formed in Manchester in 1991, Oasis is a British rock band known for its hit songs.

Initially using the name the Rain, the group was formed by Liam Gallagher (vocals), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass), and Tony McCarroll (drums and percussion), until later Liam's brother, Noel Gallagher (guitar and vocals) also joined.

After changing their name to Oasis, the members signed a contract with the indie record label Creation Records and then released their debut album Definitely Maybe in 1994.

The following year, Oasis released (What's the Story) Morning Glory? with new drummer Alan White amidst competition with another Britpop band, Blur.

Lifestyle and Conflicts

The Gallagher brothers have also been regularly the topic of tabloids and news for their wild lifestyles and feuds.

In 1997, Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now. Despite being the fastest-selling album in British history, the popularity of their third album declined rapidly.


Oasis then lost members Paul McGuigan and Paul Arthurs while they were recording and releasing Standing on the Shoulder of Giants in 2000.

The two vacancies were later replaced by Gem Archer and Andy Bell. Oasis managed to find success and popularity again with the album Don't Believe the Truth in 2005.

In August 2009, Noel Gallagher announced his departure from Oasis following a backstage altercation with Liam.

The remaining members of Oasis, led by Liam Gallagher, decided to continue working together under the name Beady Eye, while Noel formed his solo project Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

Top of the UK Charts

Oasis, with seven number-one singles and seven albums, have won fifteen NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit Awards.

Their albums include one in 2007 for outstanding contribution to music and one for the best album of the last 30 years, according to a BBC Radio 2 listener poll.

Oasis have also been nominated for three Grammy Awards. As of 2009, Oasis have sold around 70 million records worldwide.

Oasis were listed in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010 for the “Longest Top 10 UK Chart Run By A Group” after successfully positioning 22 hit singles in the top-10 of the UK music chart.

Oasis also hold the Guinness World Record for the most successful music entity between 1995 and 2005, spending 765 weeks in the Top 75 music chart. (*)
