Pink Floyd, Psychedelic Rock and Progressive Rock Band

FEMUSINDO.com - Pink Floyd is a psychedelic rock and progressive rock band from England that is famous for its bombastic song compositions.

Not only that, Pink Floyd's song lyrics are philosophical, their album covers are beautiful and their concerts are magnificent.

Pink Floyd is one of the most commercially successful rock bands, ranked seventh in the number of albums sold worldwide. They were formed in 1965 and last recorded a studio album in 2014.

Pink Floyd came from previous bands that included Sigma 6, T-Set, Meggadeaths, The Screaming Abdabs, The Architectural Abdabs and The Abdabs.

Named Pink Floyd

Then, the band was given a new name The Pink Floyd Sound and The Pink Floyd. Before releasing the first album, this name had been shortened again to Pink Floyd. The origin of this name is two blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

They initially consisted of Bob Klose (guitar), Syd Barrett (vocals, guitar), Richard Wright (keyboards), Roger Waters (bass and acoustic guitar) and Nick Mason (drums).

They sang rhythm and blues cover songs such as "Louie, Louie". Barrett then wrote songs influenced by American surf culture, psychedelic rock and English humor and literature. Bob Klose felt less suited to this direction and left the band.

In the form of a quartet they were quite stable and then they formed Blackhill Enterprises, a business partnership involving six people, each of the four personnel plus their two managers, Peter Jenner and Andrew King.

Launching Albums and Disbanding

Launched in August 1967, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn's first album is considered one of the best examples of psychedelic music from England.

The album's songs are a mix of music, from the free-form avant-garde "Interstellar Overdrive" to the melancholic "Scarecrow". The album sold well and reached number six in the UK.

In January 1968, guitarist David Gilmour joined to replace Barrett, whose mental condition had been very unstable and had been deteriorating for several months.

After Barrett officially left in April 1968, Jenner and King decided to stick with him and Blackhill Enterprises was disbanded.

Pink Floyd's album Dark Side of the Moon (1973) was a Top 20 hit in the US Money and the album itself eventually reached number one on the charts and remained in the US Top 200 for 741 weeks.

Due to internal conflicts, Pink Floyd unofficially disbanded in 1983 and officially disbanded in 2014. (*)
